Photo Contest

Consider this your call to arms. Your chance to have your best images displayed during our Photorama event. To project yourself on the walls of the Cyclorama for all to see.

So gather your best images and enter the Photo Nights Boston photo contest now through August 29. And Project Yourself.

CATERGORIES

You can submit your photos to any of the following six categories:

Boston Strong – Boston is a city rich in history and bursting with pride. The images evoke the spirit and essence of the city.

Nature – Capture the wild, sweeping beauty of nature in a single frame. Subjects may include wildlife, landscapes, aerials, and waterscapes. 

Portrait – From Mona Lisa’s smile to Einstein’s defiant tongue, a portrait can embody emotion, earnestness or exuberance. Share one shot of a person, or small group of people, where their face and expression are predominant in the photo.

Motion/Action – Life is in perpetual motion and it can be simple or complex, grandiose or modest, elegant or awkward. Take an image that celebrates motion, in one of its forms.

Fine Art – Art has no rules. So neither does this category. Just share a single image that has been created for aesthetic expression, communication, or contemplation.

Light – Photography is light. So use this category for images that use light in an inspiring way.

JUDGING CRITERIA

All of the submitted images will be judged using the following criteria:

34% Creative vision 
33% Originality (how unique is your image)
33% Technical competence as appropriate to the category

PRICING AND IMAGE FORMAT

Each entry is $20. As we are a non-profit organization powered 100% by volunteers, all proceeds will go toward putting on Photorama.

Images should be 2,000 pixels on the long side, 300 dpi. JPGs only please.

AWARDS

Through Photorama, we want to give back to the creative community so it can keep doing what it does best. We have the following awards: 

ASMP VISIONARY AWARD- The American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP) protects and promotes the fine work and interests of working imaging professionals. The winner of this award will be chosen by former ASMP President, Shawn Henry. This one photographer will receive:

$1,000

Plus:

• Merit Membership to ASMP- one year free membership equivalent in benefits to an Associate Membership
• have their image and photo credit projected on the ASMP Award slide during Photorama
• image and photo credit included in the Winners Circle Award Gallery on the Photo Nights Boston website
• photo and link with credit featured throughout the Photo Nights Boston website
• inclusion in the Photo Nights Boston newsletter
• museum quality image printed and framed by Digital Silver Imaging
• additional awards and prizes will be announced online 

WINNERS CIRCLE AWARDS- The top three winners across all categories will receive:

1st place: $800 | 2nd place: $400 | 3rd place: $200

Plus:

• have their image and photo credit projected on the Winners Circle Award slide during Photorama
• image and photo credit included in the Winners Circle Award Gallery on the Photo Nights Boston website
• photo and link with credit featured throughout the Photo Nights Boston website
• inclusion in the Photo Nights Boston newsletter
• museum quality image printed and framed by Digital Silver Imaging
• additional awards and prizes will be announced online

CATEGORY WINNERS

The 20 top placeholders for each of the categories will:

• have their image and photo credit included in the live Photorama event
• image and photo credit included in the Category Winners Gallery on the Photo Nights Boston website
• photo and link with credit featured throughout the Photo Nights Boston website
• museum quality image printed by Digital Silver Imaging
• additional awards and prizes will be announced online

PHOTO SELECTIONS

 200 photographers will:

• have their image photo credit included in the live Photorama event
• image included in gallery on Photo Nights Boston website with photo credit 
• museum quality image printed by Digital Silver Imaging
